Takumi is a guy who drives his racing car Trueno AE86 to delivers tofu. He has been trained by his dad to deliver tofu at fast speed without breaking them that he knows how the balance of his car well and improves his driving technique. One day, he gets involved with street racing. The Akina speed star local street racing team has problem with strong challenger. It was also revealed that his dad was a legendary street racer titled Ghost of Akina back then, and that Takumi often races and drifts at crazy speed while delivering tofu. This ends up with him accepting the challenge. One victory after another gets him famous and he got recruited by his opponent to make a new team, Project D. Together with Takahashi brothers, Takumi as project D member challenges street racers in neighboring areas. Although he's the only one having a car with 'Fujiwara Tofu Shop' written on the door.
